Research Stacks and Multi-Component Materials

Research stacks are catalogue combinations containing more than one research component. A combined label is not evidence of synergy, improved effect or suitability for a particular experimental model.

Multi-component studies require more controls than a single-material experiment. Where practical, researchers should compare the combination with each constituent, the matched vehicle and an appropriate benchmark. Without constituent controls, an observed change cannot reliably be attributed to one component or to an interaction.

Minimum reporting framework

• Record every stated constituent and the batch reference.
• Define single-component and combination comparators.
• Use consistent preparation, sampling and analysis conditions.
• Report antagonistic, additive, null and unexpected observations.
